Missed workouts today... I caught some stomach virus and was doing the ol' North and South... They sent me back to the hotel and I spent the day couped up in bed... it's 11:20 pm at the time of this report and I still don't feel totally up to snuff.. but I don't have the luxury of missing 2 days in a row... I was supposed to throw for 12 minutes today and don't want to jeopardize my chances... I need the throwing to strengthen up my shoulder and the running to get me back into playing shape...
Not much more today... the regulars showed up today and there are some guys that have come out of the woodwork...many of these players were called by the clubs themselves and have given up their daily jobs to give it one more try...I cannot imagine were I would be if I had not spent the 2 years in the 'show'. I have the motivation, drive and intellegence to suceed in many lines of work... but baseball is like a drug and I am addicted...
This ting with the uniun is geting out of hand... The two main reasons I am attempting this comeback are for...
1. My family... I have a 9 month old son and I would like to start a business.. I have been pursuing a gentleman in Houston who owns a batting cage and needs a 'name' to draw kids in... I was never a marquee player but I have spent 10 years of my life in professional ball and can teach youngsters a thing or two...
2. The union... This is a touchy subject with me... I played in 1991 for about 3 months almost half of 1992 and all of 1993 and collected Major League Licensing money from sales of baseball stuff... hats jackets and the sort... this licensing money amounts to over 100,000.00 and after retiring last year I was ready to either go back to school or start my own business... I have been given the run around for the last 12 months on how I cannot have MY money... they are holding it for the strike to support their nice hotel rooms and first class airfares to each city they travel to while this strike ensues... I for one would like what I have earned and to be on my way... That is why I an going to cross... to hopefully get me a junp start for college or a business..
