Well... the union is at it again... they say they are talking to the airline pilots union about having them not fly any scab flights... thats just fine with me... We'll just take the bus like in Major League...
I was still tired from my bout with this stomach virus... but ran anyway... I need to get into shape and cannot afford to miss more than a day or two...
Steve Crawford has left camp for unknown reasons... there are rumors that the union was on him to not cross...
There is a list of KC players that have signed replacement contracts. it was posted by cox@law.missouri.edu and I greatly appreciate it...I really don't know who is actually planning on crossing... and to be honest if my arm does'nt fully recover I may not even play... and that would leave me with one less thing to worry about... but I have a feeling it will be fine... I just have to take it slow...
I have talked with some players who have 8 -10 years experience in the 'show; and they have some ill feeling about scabs... but not to the point of hatred... alot of them realize the position of a 28-30 year old player who has spent the last 5 or 6 years in AAA and has been passed over by younger prospects or has lost his chance from the organization signing high priced free agents instead of giving him the ball and actually seeing what he could do... That is something I really wanted in 1992... I came off a very sucessful years in 1991 and pitched the last 7 weeks in Houston and in 24 outings picked up a save and 17 holds... good for 3rd in the league and I spent less that a month and a half there... so I was doing my job in holding the lead for our closers... anyway, I came into 1992 on a mission... I had a better spring than Osuna and pitched better the last 10 days than Rob Murphy... but they had 350,000 invested in Osuna and wanted someone experienced to back him up if he faltered... well how the $#@%$ am I supposed to get experience if they don't want to give it to me?... I was pissed off and off to AAA I went only to be called up 4 weeks later because Murphy was put on the DL... I pitched well for 7 weeks and had a rough 2 outings in early June... being a middle reliever you are put in the game to get out of someone elses jam and them when you get into one they bring in someone to get out of yours...problem ws the guys that were coming into the game for me.. were not stranding my runners... and this tend to inflate an ERA when you only pitch limited innnings... not to sound to much like a whiner... it usually works itself out over the course of a season.. problem was they sent me down once the ERA grew and never gave me the chance to make it respectable...It is all part of the game....
I gotta go... have Batting Practice to throw tomorrow...it may mean little the guys I am facing but it is the first batters I have faced on almost a year...
