March 9, 1995

After getting rained on yesterday and bascially having a day off... I was not ready for today...

We had a 7:30 am bus for Port St Lucie to play the ReplaceMets...

I would rather have the rain instead of the cold and wind we had in St Lucie... with my arm and its surgeries it takes a bit to get loose in the cold...

We came out and scored 4 in top of the first... that kind of gave us time for a deep breath... but we did'nt let up... we scored 3 more in the 3rd and in the bottom of the 6th I had my one inning of throwing...

I had a hard time getting loose in the bullpen and really worked on my curve-ball.. part of being a sucessful pitcher is knowing when you are not going out with your best stuff and still getting the job done...

This was one of those days... I used my breaking ball like a true veteran... throwing it in all counts and throwing back to back curves to herb winningham with two outs... to get the count to 0-2 and then I could have some fun... I wasted a fastball away... and then came in with a decent heater and he did'nt catch up with it and popped up to the third baseman... it felt good to get by with less than stellar stuff, two years ago I was throwing 88-90 mph and just letting it go... now I have to pitch more and use my head... I like this way of pitching but would love the arm of old... so much for miracles...

We are having fun... baseball players are just that, a bunch of guys who are sharing a dream and attempting to catch it... We may not get through a full season.. most of these guys realize that... we just want to be around some other ball-players and enjoy one more summer...
